Cysts are most commonly formed near the roots of teeth, and without treatment they can have a high growth rate and involve the surrounding tissues. Medication therapy is effective at the initial stage, when there is inflammation but no formed capsule. When tumors have appeared, surgical treatment is recommended, because it is impossible to eliminate them with conservative methods.

The modern dental approach is based on the tooth-preserving approach, when the cyst is excised, but the dental element is preserved.
