Department of maxillofacial surgery (purulent)

The department is designed to provide specialized highly skilled care for patients with purulent inflammatory diseases of the maxillofacial region.

The list of operations performed in the department:

  • Plastic surgery for congenital and acquired defects of soft tissues and bones of the facial skull;
  • Reconstructive operations on soft tissues and bones of the facial skull;
  • Removal of tumors of maxillofacial region (TMF);
  • Treatment of patients with pyoinflammatory diseases of the maxillofacial region;
  • Treatment of patients with diseases of the salivary glands;
  • Removal of medial and lateral cysts and fistulas in the neck;
  • Surgery on the maxillary sinus, including plastic elimination of sinus-oral connections;
  • Surgical treatment of traumatic injuries of soft tissues and bones of the facial skull.
  • List of surgical interventions performed on a fee basis:
  • Surgery to restore bone volume in the case of alveolar atrophy of the upper and lower jaw;
  • Removal of retained and dystopian teeth;
  • Removal of cysts of the jaw;
  • Root apex resection;
  • Dental implantation.

High-tech surgeries performed in the department:

  • Osteosynthesis and osteoplasty of facial skeleton bones with restoration of anatomical integrity with monocortical or bicortical grafts of maxillary alveolar defects after removal of tumors, large sequesters, restoration of post-traumatic defects, grafting in restoration of congenital defects of the upper jaw and palate;
  • closure of perforated maxillary and mandibular alveolar defects with bone mono- or bicortical transplants in maxillary fistulas, alveolar atrophies, alveolar augmentations and the floor of the maxillary sinus.

The department has a chair of maxillofacial surgery at BSMU.

The staff of the department holds daily morning clinical conferences, headed by head of department Lastovka A.S. with the discussion of patients and planning the schedule of operative interventions. Consultations of patients are carried out, weekly on Mondays clinical rounds of the department with the participation of docents of the Department.

REQUIREMENTS FOR HOSPITALIZATION

Hospitalization of patients with diseases of the maxillofacial region is carried out by referral from the polyclinic at the place of residence with the seals of the institution and the head of the department after completing the mandatory and additional methods of research indicated in the Clinical Protocols and providing the results.

The list may include, if necessary:

  • X-rays (OPTG, CLCT, MS CT, MRI, etc.),
  • Cytological examination (results of cytological study).

Appointments for planned hospitalization are carried out from Tuesday to Friday from 8:30 to 9:30 by referral from the dental surgeon of the polyclinic at the place of residence.

When patients with diseases of the maxillofacial region are routinely referred for surgical interventions, the following examinations are performed:

  • General blood test, general urinalysis
  • ECG (in the presence of pathology in the opinion of a general practitioner).
  • Biochemical blood tests (total protein, bilirubin, urea, transaminases, glucose, electrolytes).
  • Coagulogram: (ACTV, prothrombin test (prothrombin time, prothrombin ratio, percentage of activity of prothrombin factors, INR) thrombin time, fibrinogen, D-dimers).
  • Chest radiography (date no later than 6 months).
  • For patients with comorbidities - obligatory! consultation with a specialist in the profile of the disease, for women - gynecologist.
  • Extract from the therapist (total cases of VN during the year).
  • Blood tests for RW, HBs Ag, anti-HCV (not later than 2 weeks).
  • Vaccination status (tetanus, diphtheria).
  • Oral and maxillofacial examinations (X-rays, ultrasound, CT/CBCT cytology/histology, oncologist's report, etc).
  • Sanitation of the oral cavity.

Test results must not be more than 10 days old!

ATTENTION PATIENTS!

You must bring with you when you are admitted to the hospital:

  • Passport (ID card)
  • Referral with test results
  • Personal hygiene products (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap).
  • A nightgown.

Please note, that in case of the planned surgical treatment, you must ensure the absence of jewelry, nail polish, and false nails.

PATIENT INFORMATION

We pay your attention that taking into consideration the character of a disease, syndrome and (or) their course, and also individual features of patient's organism, unintended complications during basic operations, which are performed in the department, are possible:

  • Wound complications (bleeding, formation of hematomas, serous fluid accumulations, infiltrates, damage to nearby organs and tissues)
  • thromboembolic complications
  • development of pain syndrome in the postoperative period, including chronic
  • Infectious complications (suppuration of the wound, pneumonia, etc.)
  • Exacerbation of concomitant chronic pathologies

During the operation, unforeseen circumstances may arise, in which the course of the operation may be changed by doctors at their discretion.

In some cases, repeat surgeries may be necessary, including those related to possible postoperative complications or peculiarities of the course of the disease.
